Slightly. The button placket adds visual detail that makes a henley look more intentional than a plain t-shirt. It's not formal, but it's a clear step up from a basic tee — closer to a polo in perceived effort.
In most offices, a henley alone is too casual (same as a t-shirt). However, a henley under a blazer or sport coat works in business-casual creative environments. For a proper office, reach for a polo or button-down instead.
For standalone wear, a medium-weight cotton or slub cotton henley has the best drape and visual interest. For layering, a waffle-knit (thermal) henley adds texture and warmth. Avoid very thin henleys — they look like stretched-out underwear.
